well…its another birthday month in the books. And Olive gave it her best attempt to acknowledge the honored ones with a photoshoot? (“hey ya wanna move that trash can before you take my pic?, is that a hair on the lens? lemme see.” Close up or far away, you’re still beautiful, Olive & fun to have near..

Special birthday shout out to her best buddy in the whole wide world, Scott,

Also sending belated birthday wishes to JOy & STeve! You guys make life good! Thank you!

Are you due for a Hoist inspection?

We put a great deal of time & effort into our frequent & periodic hoist inspections & this fall is an excellent time to reach out & see how we could help your Company. The safety of your crane & hoist operators is always our #1 priority as well as insuring that you are osha compliant.

During inspections, we examine all aspects of the supporting structure right down to the hooks in use. We document any areas of concern, so that your maintenance crew can remedy the issues. In some cases, we ourselves will do the maintenance and/or repairs necessary to keep production in your facility moving along, which btw, also lengthens the life of your hoists.

After an inspection, our office personnel transcribes the inspection forms into an inclusive document that lists your hoists in order & chronicles all of our findings. It is then expedited to you via email. Along with keeping you osha compliant, this document can also help you keep an open dialog going with your crew. It’s fantastic for efficiency and we are the only company who offers this type of visual aid.

We are here to help keep you safe, help you avoid catastrophe & be a long time friend & ally in the business of heavy material lifting application. Give us a call to visit about frequent/periodic inspections & which plan is right for your facility.

Shortcuts

Lets talk about them for a minute. Shortcuts, I mean. …lets say you’re busy, you have a pressing project & you need to get this finished ASAP, like yesterday. Be honest, have you ever just checked off the pre-operational checklist without actually checking? I’m just asking… Now, I will graciously be the voice of your mother for a moment.. Your hands are important. Your foot is important. And unequivocally, beyond a shadow of a doubt, your Life is Important!

When beginning your shift, Go down that list one by one! Look for tags saying “out of service” Check the hook, inspect the chain or wire rope. Double check the directional labels on the pendant to make sure they agree with directions the hoist is taking. Make sure that nothing is in the area that could cause you to trip & stumble. Inspect the slings for tears, cuts or fraying. Take this seriously.. The daily inspection should be signed, dated & accessible when you need it. Let the safety manager know if you find anything that is concerning.

Young & Old, we all get in a hurry & sometimes we make mistakes. But this daily procedure might some day be the only thing standing between you and a compromised lifting strap. Stay whole, my friend!

Hoist Repair

Hoists can live quite a long time. How long? Primarily the frequency of use will determine the amount of years you can bank on .. but coming in at close 2nd is Maintenance. Consistent maintenance is key. Periodic & annual inspections will prevent expensive repairs, saving you unwanted downtime.

Our team of specialists have worked with nearly every brand of hoist there is. I can say with confidence that if it can be repaired, we will do it, helping you get every ounce of life possible out of your hoist. We have the means to locate and access the parts we need, the experience to quickly diagnose the issues & return your hoist to you as expediently as possible. Whether the job requires that our team come to you or if you deliver the hoist to our shop, we’ll diagnose, share our findings with you & quickly find the most economical resolution to get you back up and running in no time.

Since establishing our business back in 2007, we have solely depended on word of mouth for advertising. Our goal is always the same, to be your ally for all of your hoist and overhead crane needs.

Training your team is Promoting Safety in the Work place (Copy)

We understand there are many facets to managing a successful manufacturing plant. And when you can delegate certain necessary steps to a trustworthy entity, it can absolutely take pressure off of your already heavy workload.

Training is KING. And when it comes to running a safe plant, operators must have appropriate training on 1.) how to properly operate their crane for each lifting application; 2.) and commit daily to performing an inspection check sheet before & after every use. This is not just a suggestion, this is an OSHA requirement. Identifying the signs of a worn out or faulty element/s, including the BTHLDs should be taught and become 2nd nature to them to assure a safe environment.

If this adds a multitude of concern to an already busy schedule, we have the solution right here. DSM Hoist offers training for beginner operators, targeted training for specific lifting applications, continued education for seasoned operators. Click here to see our list of training curriculum We have 2 options available currently:

1.) On-site training in Your facility for a more hands on experience.

2.) We also have a spacious building here at dsm Hoist, where we accommodate groups of up to 12, for a quiet, more intimate experience. Our training facility does have overhead cranes & hoists for that same hands on opportunity. Just an overall different vibe here in the country.

Call Scott and visit with him about your training needs. He’ll be happy to consult with you on a plan that will best suit your situation.

A little about us...

What a perfect opportunity for us to reach out & share a little more about our company with our community of hoist owners & operators, …drop some nuggets of wisdom & maybe go off topic every now and then…. A blog! We’re glad you’re here!

This is a little snapshot of the DSM Hoist Shop. We’re located 4 miles south of Norwalk & our building sits back on the east side of highway 28.

And this is a little snapshot of what it looks like inside. On any given day, our team might be out in the field performing periodic & BTHLD inspections, load testing, servicing overhead cranes & hoists or repairing hoists & fabricating lifting devices here at the shop. Our office crew is updating reports, scheduling inspections, taking care of orders (& starting a new blog :o).

We also have a furry friend that patrols & boosts the morale of our entire shop. Her name is Olive & she works with us every day. We say that she’s the head of our human relations department, PR & one heck of a Security officer.

Kindness & helpfulness come naturally to everyone here at DSM Hoist. You will always be greeted with a smile and shown the genuine respect that we have for our awesome customers. If we haven’t met, consider this our invite to call on us whenever you need help with your hoists and overhead cranes.
